Heavy holiday traffic causes 11-mile eastbound backup on Thursday

Eastbound holiday traffic peaked between 12:22 p.m. and 1:31 p.m. with an 11-mile backup extending to Exit 21 (I-97). Significant congestion persisted throughout the afternoon, maintaining 9-mile delays from Exit 23 (Maryland 450) and 7.5-mile delays from Exit 24 (Rowe Boulevard) until approximately 6:00 p.m. While the bridge operated with three lanes open eastbound and two lanes open westbound for most of the day, traffic did not return to normal speeds until 9:51 p.m. Westbound travel remained clear with no significant delays reported.
