Afternoon eastbound backups and overnight span closures on Wednesday.
The eastbound span was closed for roadwork from midnight until 4:30 a.m. and again starting at 9:38 p.m., forcing two-way traffic onto the westbound bridge with one lane in each direction. Peak congestion hit during the afternoon commute, when eastbound travel times reached 20 minutes at 3:00 p.m. as backups extended from Sandy Point (Exit 32) back to Rowe Boulevard (Exit 24). While the bridge maintained a three-lane eastbound configuration for most of the afternoon, motorists also faced secondary delays at the Severn River Bridge starting at Exit 23.
