Six-mile backups impacted both directions on Saturday afternoon

Congestion intensified midday with eastbound travel times peaking at 31 minutes between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The most significant delays occurred around 1:00 p.m. when a 6.6-mile westbound backup reached Jackson Creek Road (Exit 43A) and eastbound queues extended six miles to the Severn River Bridge. Travel returned to normal by 6:30 p.m. following the conclusion of two-way traffic operations that had restricted the bridge to two open lanes in the peak direction.
