About BayBridgeStatus

BayBridgeStatus tracks live traffic on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (officially the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge), which carries US 50 and US 301 between Anne Arundel County and Queen Anne's County, Maryland. For Eastern Shore commuters and beach traffic, it's often the only practical way across the Bay.

An automated worker calls the official BaySpan traffic line about once an hour, and every few minutes during a delay or closure. It transcribes the recording and uses AI to summarize current conditions. Travel times come from live Mapbox data and refresh every few minutes.
